Nutrient Multiply Factor

Upper and lower limits are given in the Nutrient Reference Values for Australia and New Zealand. (2006) with a reference weight and height for each age group.

While building ETBN, I felt that for most nutrients the lower and upper limits should be scaled relative to Lean Body Mass of the subject compared to the LBM of the reference weight. We call this the Nutrient Multiply Factor, and use it to make a final adjustment to your dietary requirements.

I won't go on and on, but it's basically taking care of the fact that if you're enourmously built, then I suspect that you're going to need a bit more nutrients.

NMF=BMR/ReferenceBMR

  • NMF=Nutrient Multiply Factor
  • BMR=The subject's BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)
  • ReferenceBMR=The reference BMR from Nutrient Reference Values for Australia and New Zealand. (2006) for the subject's age, height & sex.

It should be noted that this is not mentioned in the Nutrient Reference Values for Australia and New Zealand. (2006), I just feel that it's consistent with the methodology used in the standardised dietary calculations. The entire concept will almost definitely be refined at some stage, or possibly even removed from ETBN after further research. It's a work in progress and is most likely to change.
